Our Story,
Cognito….. the opposite of incognito. Why would you want to be disguised if you look so good? At Cognito we don’t just promote amazing looking hair, we encourage positive attitudes and forward thinking. Why should you live your life having a negative outlook on life and always live in the past? At Cognito, we will bring you into the future, giving you an amazing new look!
We started out in Taft, California, a suburb of Bakersfield, north of LA, the home of founder Amanda McClanahan. It was here as a teenager, that she washed brushes for the former owner, until, at the young age of 20, she herself took ownership of the shop. After a few years she sought to move to Tennessee, and as soon as her opportunities blossomed, she sold the salon in California, and opened up a Cognito salon in Nashville, Tennessee.
Cognito Hairdesign is located in the heart of music city USA – downtown Nashville. Amanda says,“I had a strong calling to come to Nashville. With the help of friends and family, it happened. It has taken me over a year to pursue this idea and now that it’s finally happened, it has been an absolute blessing.”
The Cognito salon, which has been open since February of 2003, is a John Paul Mitchell Systems signature salon, exclusively representing JPMS The Color, Tea Tree, Modern Elixirs, and the original black and white Paul Mitchell. In addition, Amanda McClanahan is an associate, and a national educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems.
